In 2012, Haemonetics established the Lisa Lopez Leadership Award in recognition of the leadership and service exhibited by our former Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Lisa Lopez, who retired in March of 2012.

Lisa had an extensive career at Haemonetics which began when she joined the company in 1988 as Director of Human Resources and General Counsel. Over her 23 year career, Lisa’s roles covered Quality, Regulatory, Medical & Clinical Affairs, and Environmental Health & Safety. Lisa’s passion for corporate social responsibility and global citizenship played a large part in her lasting legacy.

The Lisa Lopez Leadership Award recognizes a Haemonetics employee for their leadership within the Company, and the ways in which they positively represent our Company within their local community. The winning submission is awarded up to $5,000 towards a program or initiative benefitting a non-profit organization or cause of the employee’s choice.

We are proud to recognize the 2015 winner of the Lisa Lopez Leadership Award:
Fiona Reyne, Blood Track Sales Specialist from our UK Sales Office in Coventry

Fiona’s winning submission is in support of a British charity CHICKS which sponsors disadvantaged, inner-city children for a week’s respite break in the beautiful countryside near the Peak District, Derbyshire, England. The Lisa Lopez Leadership award will support 16 children on their break, and allow Fiona to spend that time mentoring the children through their experience.

The week long respite break will help disadvantaged children have an opportunity that they would never otherwise experience. These children come from inner-city areas in the UK, often living in poverty, spending their lives caring for parents/siblings or having suffered abuse or neglect. Some of these children have never been to a rural area before (there are often children who have never even seen a sheep), so to be able to experience horseback riding, rock climbing and generally getting muddy and having fun is a life-changing opportunity. The children are referred for the program by professionals within the community, such as Social Workers, Police Officers or Teachers.

Since its inception, our employees have made a lasting impact with the Lisa Lopez Leadership Award. Last year’s winner was Tony Andrade, a Sr. Field Service Engineer in the Americas Region. Tony’s winning proposal, Operation Smile, involved organizing an initiative to improve the dental hygiene of children who live in his hometown village of Estancia Roque, which is located in a remote part of the Cape Verde Islands. The idea for Operation Smile came as a result of Tony’s personal experience with the challenges confronted by people with limited access to dental care, and the negative health effects that can result. His dream has always been to give back to his village through education, example, and leadership. With the support of Haemonetics, this project enabled him to positively impact the lives of 120 children, ages 5-14.

Congratulations to Fiona, and thank you to all of our employees for their continued commitment to supporting local causes.
